Martha Blah Blah – Susan Meddaugh

This book has a more complex plot, which is ideal for readers aged 6 and up. In this story, Martha is a dog that magically gains the ability to speak when she eats alphabet soup. This leads to entertaining results, including a standoff between her and the alphabet soup company.

All Better – Lisa Thiesing

Good for kids aged 2-6. In this story, Sally is a clumsy pig who gets hurt in various different ways, but always picks herself back up and puts on a bandaid.  This story is a simple way to teach kids resilience in the face of suffering, and how all boo-boos will get better in the end.

A Secret Place – Julia Draper

Good for children aged 5 – 12. A Secret Place is about a girl who loves the nature and animals in the abandoned lot next to her house, but when it gets bulldozed, she creates a garden in her backyard. This is a story of hope in the face of loss, and building something special out of nothing.
